The Bridge to Faith

Welcome Teachers

Teachers Page:

What a privilege to disciple a new believer!  His excitement can be contagious!  Let him remind you of the time you accepted Christ as your personal Savior.  Remember?  You were on fire about Christ and what He was doing in your life.  You wanted to tell the world  and so does your new disciple.
This Bible study is designed to cover the most essential doctrine for a new believer to know, yet to do it simply, not comprehensively.  We do not wish to overwhelm him, but to slowly give him milk, not a full meal. That will come with time during his sanctification process.  Therefore the lessons are short.  Only three lessons a week.
Your job is to help draw your disciple nearer to God while developing a deeper understanding and closer relationship with Him.  God has promised a new life.  You will be showing him what that life can look like.  You will have a front row seat as you watch God transform his life right before your very eyes!  Now isn't that exciting?
You may have the opportunity to lead others to Christ.  Often when one person chooses Jesus, others follow.  Don't be surprised with requests to speak to friends and family, loved ones who desire a new life in Christ like your disciple. So you may have the opportunity to lead others to Christ.
Please tell other believers in your Connect Group or circle of friends and family about your experience discipling this new believer.  Share your excitement, the journey with your disciple, the simplicity of using this Bible study, the accessibility of questions we cannot answer on our own.  We are all called to disciple. It is a command from God (Matt. 28:19) Your story will encourage others to do the same.

Procedures:

Opening Scripture/Opening Prayer:
Each lesson begins with a scripture.  Use that scripture in your opening prayer as you pray aloud. Your disciple is taught to place his/her own name in each scripture encouraging him to listen to what God is saying specifically to him. This is a prescription for how to talk to God.  You can certainly model that now and in the weeks to come.
This opening scripture is to be memorized each week.  It is stated at the beginning of each lesson for that chapter.  Share with your disciple the method you use to memorize scripture.  Suggestions are included in his workbook and it will help if you memorize the short scripture each week as well.  Ask your disciple to repeat that scripture with you and for you.  Be patient. Some haven't had to memorize for decades!
Lesson Discussion:
After opening in prayer, you will discuss each question and scripture in the three lessons for the week. It's only natural that questions will arise from your discussions. New believers come with preconceived ideas about God and Christ and the Holy Spirit, from other religious backgrounds or from having no religious teaching at all.   You are NOT expected to know the answers to every question.  Be honest with him if you aren't sure of an answer.  Do not guess or explain what you think.  Express you want to show him the correct scripture and have the correct answer.  Then search for the scripture and the answer being ready to explain at your next meeting.
Application:
An Application suggestion follows each lesson.  Discuss.
Be Respectful of Time:
You have agreed to a date and time to meet with your disciple.  Determine ahead of time the length of each meeting.  Be respectful of those times and agreements.  Keep an eye on the clock so you can thoroughly examine each lesson and finish on time.
Close each lesson with prayer:
Ask your disciple if he is praying before and after each lesson.  Explain the importance to him. We speak to God at those times to ask Him to bless our quiet time together, for God to reveal anything we may need to know, to help us to remember what we learned  and to apply it to our lives.Does your disciple have any prayer requests?  Model how you record those whether on your workbook or in a prayer journal.

End your meeting in prayer.  Tell him he can take his turn praying aloud when  he feels comfortable.  Assure him there is no wrong or right way to pray; what is important is that he speaks to God with reverence and from his heart.  Don't expect this new believer to jump right in. Many believers who have been in church for decades are still uncomfortable praying aloud.
